Meet the face behind the incredible Pasta Grannies project – that has taken the YouTube world by storm – that documents, granny by granny, traditional pasta recipes from all over Italy. Vicky will be talking about her many and varied journeys all over the country to record family recipes and the secrets of the nonne, while Carla keeps everyone fed with a fresh made pasta meal, local wine and other treats.

Market to Table, the special series of appointments created by Rachel Roddy, Carla Tomasi and Alice Adams for visitors to Rome, is back for 2018 with more dates and a revised class structure. The concept remains the same: we start at the market, mostly Testaccio, but other markets on occasion, where we fill bags and baskets with the best of the season. We then walk back across the river to Trastevere and up to latteria studio where Carla awaits – with more produce from her garden in Ostia.
Making fresh pasta is much of the day, as well as trimming, cutting and prepping the vegetables and other morsels that will make up part of a very convivial shared lunch.
The dates for 2018 are listed below. They will be available to book (with a deposit) three months out from each class – you can click on the link to do so. If you are coming to Rome on a date that doesn’t match please feel free to enquire about a private class with either Carla or Alice.
Max group size is 6 participants, with a special class with a max of 4 people on selected dates. Two of the three of us will always lead the class.

beans. Freekeh, barley, black lentils…to name just a few!
Sunday 13 May – Skillz #3. Easy puddings/cakes/desserts. Bonet (from Piemonte), Zuccotto ( from Florence), Lemon and poppy seed cake( so buttery and fragrant), a classic Caprese torte, Praline semifreddo ( no ice cream maker required), Tahini and halva
brownies (so very good you will ask somebody to hide them from you) and
last but not least Cassola, a baked Roman cheesecake with a cherry, red
wine and bay compote.

cuisines and home cooking.

For the third year running Alice, Carla and Sofie are baking for the much loved Christmas kitchen bake sale. Fill your hampers with home made preserves, real English fruit cake, all butter Danish cookies and much more.
From 10 am till 6 pm on Sunday 10 December. Stop by for a just baked cinnamon roll and a cup of tea, and pick up all those things you won’t find in Italian food stores! We recommend placing orders for the hot ticket items like Alice’s mince pies, Sofie’s Danish Christmas cookies and Carla’s traditional Christmas cakes. Contact us on the emails below. Also on sale on the day will be the special preserves from the small social enterprise project run by latteria studio. Neighborhood Oranges and Marmelate Solidale are made by Ruben and James, two unemployed Nigerians living in Rome. Every jar helps them – it is a very simple equation – the more we sell, the more often they are able to work and earn money in a dignified and valuable way. We are having a special label designed for Christmas by the artists at #makeartnotswalls in Umbria, so please consider making an order and giving our amazing bitter orange marmalade (or plum jam) as a Christmas gift to your work colleagues.

Spend a day with Carla Tomasi in the world of fresh pasta. She will share the secrets, techniques and recipes in this all day class which will cover making fresh pasta in various forms; tagliatelle, seasonal ravioli, garganelli and more. The class includes (a pasta based) lunch with wine and lots of fresh goodness from Carla’s garden in Ostia Antica. You will leave with some of the pasta you have made and a recipe compendium.

A day of bottling, pickling and fermenting the glorious end of summer produce with Carla Tomasi. We will bottle tomato and basil sauce, pickle zucchini with oregano and mint, make spiced peaches, quick pickles, plum chutney and more.
